According to the latest data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), the Producer Price Inflation (PPI) for January 2023 slightly declined to 52.1% from the previous month’s rate of 52.2%. This figure reflects the average prices of goods and services received by domestic producers for their production activities.

Comparing January 2023 with the same period last year, the PPI rate surged by 52.1%, with a slight decrease of 0.1 percentage points relative to December 2022. The month-on-month change between December 2022 and January 2023 stood at 0.9%.

Notably, the Mining and Quarrying, Transport and Storage, and Manufacturing sectors recorded PPI rates of 68.2%, 62.6%, and 53.3%, respectively, surpassing the national average. Meanwhile, the Information and Communication Activity sector saw the lowest rate of 1.2% in January 2023.

In the construction sector, PPI decreased to 20.4% in January 2023 from 22.1% in December 2022. Similarly, the services sector also experienced a decline, dropping from 10.5% in December 2022 to 9.5% in January 2023.

Overall, these figures from the GSS offer valuable insights into the current state of the Ghanaian economy, particularly in terms of the prices of goods and services.
