Comedy fans in Ghana may soon get to see a classic stand-up comedy performance by American, Dave Khari Webber Chappelle.
During one of his sold-out comedy performances in London last Friday, dubbed “Dave Chappelle Live in London 2022,” the comedian, better known by his stage as Dave Chappelle, alluded to a performance in Ghana.
The renowned Backyard Comedy Club hosted the event
Kojo Anim, a gifted British comedian who was born in Ghana, was Dave’s longtime friend. When Dave asked him where he was from, Kojo responded, “Ghana.” He continued by cracking a small joke about it and added that he probably ought to host a comedy show in Ghana. Kojo concurred that it’s a fantastic concept.
If the idea materialises, it will mark Dave Chappelle’s debut appearance in Ghana. In an interview with Naomi Campbell in April of last year, the comedian made a suggestion that he wanted to relocate to Ghana to start a new life.
The two had a conversation on the latter’s No Filter with Naomi podcast, where Chappelle shared that he was inspired by Stevie Wonder and wanted to follow in his footsteps with a move to Ghana, West Africa.
With plenty of material about Kanye West and his recent pronouncements, which pretty much dominated his entire show, the seasoned stand-up comic gave his audience in the auditorium yet another rib-cracking moment
Ashley and Cipha performed before Dave Chappelle, and both of their sets had the audience in fits of laughter. With huge gags on African dads and kids, the amazing and funny Kojo Anim entered the stage next and delivered an exceptional performance that night.
Kojo has made enormous achievements in the world of comedy after receiving the “golden buzzer” moment in the “British Got Talent” competition. He frequently performs on stages with legends.

Following a break, Chappelle resumed touring the country doing stand-up comedy. Chappelle was dubbed “the finest” by a Billboard writer in 2013 and the “comic genius of America” by Esquire in 2006. He was voted No. 9 in Rolling Stone’s list of the “50 Best Stand-Up Comics of All Time” in 2017.
Ghana has been a popular destination for Black Americans—celebrities and everyday people alike—who are looking for a new home after 2018’s “Year of Return” initiative. “Beyond the Return,” which is currently in its second pillar, aims to create economic ties, commerce, and investments from the diaspora in Africa and around the world in addition to promoting tourism.
“We feel that given the wealth that African Americans and Black Americans have, given that spending power — we felt that it is about time that we start the conversation about coming back to where you came from,” Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority shared with Black Enterprise.
Chappelle’s desire to leave white America’s oppression and attack illustrate an increasing trend among Black people.
