The Recording Academy, the brains behind the prestigious Grammy Awards, has asserted that when it comes to Afrobeats and African artists, none shine brighter than Nigerian sensation Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy.
In an official statement released on Saturday, the Academy extended congratulations to Burna Boy and fellow nominees in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category for the upcoming 2024 Grammys.
According to the Grammys, Burna Boy is undeniably in the prime of his career, having not only collaborated with international icons like Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber but also achieving a significant milestone this year with his chart-topping UK No. 1 album, “I Told Them…,” which exudes classic hip-hop vibes and features notable artists such as 21 Savage, J. Cole, RZA, and GZA.

The Academy emphatically declared, “There’s no bigger star in Afrobeats or the entire African music scene than Burna Boy. With two consecutive Best Global Album GRAMMY nominations for ‘Twice as Tall’ and ‘African Giant,’ and collaborations with global heavyweights like Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, Burna Boy has solidified his status as a global music force.”
Burna Boy’s track ‘City Boys’ has been nominated in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys. The competition for the award includes strong contenders like Davido and Musa Keys’ ‘Unavailable,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Asake and Olamide’s ‘Amapiano,’ and Tyla’s ‘Water.’
In addition to his Best African Music Performance nomination, Burna Boy has also secured nods in three other categories: ‘Sitting On Top of the World’ featuring 21 Savage for Best Melodic Rap, ‘I Told Them’ for Best Global Music Album, and ‘Alone’ for Best Global Music Performance. The Grammys are set to be an exciting showcase for Burna Boy’s remarkable achievements in the music industry.
