Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has paid tribute to late Christian Atsu, who tragically perished in the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey on February 6. Christian Atsu was a well-known professional and talented footballer.

The ‘Ayoo’ singer extended Atsu’s family and loved ones his sincere sympathies and expressed his profound regret. Many Ghanaians were shocked to learn of the earthquake and Atsu’s passing; Shatta Wale and other celebrities publicly expressed their shock and dismay at the information.

The well-known performer admitted that the awful news had touched him greatly and that he had been closely monitoring the search for Atsu.

Shatta Wale continued by saying that when Atsu was reported lost under the rubble, he had repeatedly contacted his colleague Medikal to inquire about his whereabouts.

The musician said he was unable to fathom the suffering and loss that Atsu’s family must be experiencing, and he pleaded with his followers to pray for them.

Atsu was known as a gifted and kind young guy, and his passing has left Ghanaians in shock. The profound sense of loss and grief that many Ghanaians have been experiencing since the musician’s passing was highlighted by Shatta Wale’s moving homage to him.

Earlier on, Mesut Ozil’s agent, Ekot Sogut, had disclosed how one of his clients, a former teammate of Christian Atsu’s at Hatayspor, survived the horrific earthquake that struck Turkey.

The agent claims that even though his client and the Ghanaian footballer shared an apartment, they managed to escape when the building collapsed

“I actually had a player with Atsu in the same team and he was in the same building, and he got out by himself. He was lucky because he was on the fifth floor and the building collapsed to the other side, not where he was,” Sogut stated, to AFTV media.

The agent explained his player was still awake at 4am when the tremors hit Turkey. “He played the night before after a long time and he thanks God had his phone in his hands and he used the light on his phone. It took him half an hour to 45 minutes to come out.”
