John Dumelo started acting in the early 2000s, he has been one of Ghana’s most popular and bankable stars. His good looks, combined with his natural talent for acting, have endeared him to movie fans all over the country.

He has also been an ambassador for several brands such as Guinness Ghana and Samsung Mobile. In addition to acting, he owns several businesses including a clothing line and a farming business. He is actively involved in charity work with organizations such as World Vision International, UNICEF Ghana, and Reach for Change, among others. Since then, he has been using his platform to advocate for various causes, such as education and improved healthcare.

He is also the founder of the John Dumelo Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Ghana. In 2019, Dumelo announced his intention to run for office in Ghana’s parliament as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In Ghana, it is not common for celebrities especially actors to enter into politics so when Dumelo announced his intention to run for parliament in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), it came as a huge surprise.

Dumelo’s acting career has undoubtedly helped him in his political career. His popularity has given him a wide base of supporters, and his experience in the entertainment industry has helped him to hone his public speaking skills.

He contested in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency parliamentary election in 2020 but lost to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Hon Lydia Alhassan. Despite his loss, Dumelo remains popular among Ghanaians, especially the youth. He has used his platform to campaign for various causes, including environmental protection and women’s empowerment. Dumelo has recently declared his interest in running for office again. He has also hinted at a possible career in diplomacy. Given his popularity and influence, it is likely that Dumelo will play a significant role in Ghanaian politics in the years to come.

But currently, as it stands, John Dumelo faces many challenges as a politician. One of the biggest challenges is that he is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is currently in opposition. This means that he does not have the same resources or support as members of the ruling party. Additionally, he faces challenges from within his party, as there are many factions within the NDC. Another challenge Dumelo faces is that he is relatively young and inexperienced compared to other politicians. This can make it difficult for him to be taken seriously and to get people to vote for him but he is very popular among the youth in the constituency. Finally, as a member of parliament, Dumelo has to balance his time between his constituency work and his work in parliament. This can be a challenge, as he may not be able to devote enough time to either one.

Given his high profile, popularity, and zeal, Dumelo is considered to be a strong contender for the seat. Many fine individuals who had all the prospects of Dumelo or even more turned out to be bad politicians when given the mandate to lead. The question on the minds of many is, is he determined to serve or determined to spend the state’s money? Is all his enthusiasm and charisma a way to also loot the state purse or he is willing to serve just like how he is doing philanthropical works? Time is the best judge.
