Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), has promised to fire incompetent government workers and meter out the appropriate penalties if he is voted as President of Ghana in the upcoming 2024 elections. The APC 2024 flagbearer candidate said there has been indiscipline within state institutions and that criminals within government institutions must face the consequences of their actions. He said this in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Prime Morning on Monday.

Dr. Ayariga alluded that some individuals must enter hell to pave way for others to get to heaven. He said that enforcing punishments was necessary for solving the problems in the country. According to him, the measure of sanctions that will be given to an individual will depend on the severity of the crime committed. A murder crime, however, will warrant the death penalty, he said.

In addition, Hassan Ayariga stated that there would be a decline in armed robbery cases in Ghana and that the APC government will provide jobs for young people. He predicted that in place of armed robbers, politicians would rather be arrested.

Is this possible in Ghana? I will allow posterity to judge.

The APC administration hopes to establish a national database that would have comprehensive information on every Ghanaian which will assist in arresting criminals and reducing the crime rates in the country. He stated that Dubai records a low crime rate of 0.004 because of its usage of data in combating crime.

How different will this database be from the ECOWAS Identification Card which has been implemented by the National Identification Authority (NIA)?

The politician asserts that our national problems have forced many to commit crimes such as armed robbery. He blames this phenomenon on the bad leadership of the government officials and necessitates that the state officials who are the primary “armed robbers” must first be imprisoned to induce sanity in the country.

The APC founder also contended that employees’ level of dedication is declining as a result of the government’s disregard for state-run businesses.

We have seen several leaders come and go since independence. While some have contributed to making the country a better place for all, others have done very little towards national development. Crimes are on the rise and this indeed is a national canker.

Could Dr. Ayariga be the restorer of sanity in the country? Should he be given the nod in 2024, are we likely to experience another era similar to His Excellency the late Jerry John Rawlings’s regime where the systems ‘worked’?
