In Odumasi, in the Ashanti Region, a private toilet has been sunk by a mining trench dug beneath a home.

A young woman who was using the facility at the time of the collapse lost her life as a result of the catastrophe.

The illegal miner-dug pit in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality is just one of many similar covert holes found beneath local homes.

Several homes, according to sources, are in danger of collapsing due to these hidden trenches.

Since then, an excavator was used to collect the unidentified woman’s body.

As they are evicted from their homes by illegal miners, the residents of the Eastern Region community of Apinamang are feeling scared and frustrated.

The activities of illicit mining, often known as “galamsey,” are starting to cause havoc and endanger the livelihoods of locals.

The “galamseyers” have dug all around Joyce Wowornyo’s home in an effort to seize her land in quest of gold.

She has seen the dreadful results of illegal mining firsthand and lives in the remote Apinamang forest.

To save what was remained of their lands, she and other locals had to fight off illegal miners.
