Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has been sued by Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, also known as Bulldog, his former manager.
After the musician threatened to reveal his purported secret regarding the passing of late artist manager, Fennec Okyere, Bullgod filed a defamation lawsuit against Shatta Wale.
On Wednesday, November 2, the “Ayoo” singer wrote on social media, “Bull Dog, since you are bringing out secrets, you will tell Ghanaians what happen to Fenicks Murder!! And I am not joking about this time!!”
“I am ready to tell the court about what you told me about you and your men and how you planned that foolish act, get ready. This Akufo-Addo won’t give you a murderer chance to be on our streets!!! Watch how this ends!!! You can’t fight time!!!”
Bullgod’s attorneys stated in court filings submitted to an Accra High Court that these statements aim to imply that he planned, carried out, or assisted in Mr. Okyere’s death.
They added that Shatta Wale’s claims also meant “that the Plaintiff is a criminal gangster and a danger to society and ought to be in jail (rather than walk freely in the streets).”
Also, “that his (the Defendant’s) claims in the publication are factual, truthful, and must be taken seriously by the public and law enforcement authorities.”
They said that the police have begun a new inquiry into the death of Mr. Okyere as a result of these statements.
Bulldog’s team, however, is adamant that these claims are untrue, nasty, and only serve to tarnish the artiste’s management.
Additionally, the attorneys listed additional statements made by Shatta Wale that they also consider to be defamatory
They include assertions that Bulldog had reportedly stated that former President Mahama had ordered him to get gunmen and ladies for him as well as women for a fictitious job.
The attorneys pointed out that these claims imply that “the Plaintiff is a person who engages in illicit gun violence, contract killing and other related crimes,” and also “that the Plaintiff is in the trade of procuring, controlling, and arranging prostitutes in return for money and other material gains.”
Bulldog is therefore asking the court to rule that these claims, along with others cited in the lawsuit, are false and malicious.
Additionally, he pleads with the court to order Shatta Wale to retract his claims and apologise to him.
Bulldog is demanding that the ‘Mahama Paper’ crooner apologise “on all his social media pages or accounts, make a publication on seven consecutive days” adding that “such retraction and apology to be vetted and approved by the Plaintiff’s lawyers.”
Additionally, he wants Shatta Wale barred from ever again making any disparaging remarks about him through a permanent injunction.
Bulldog is looking for, among other things, “general damages for defamation, special damages for defamation, punitive damages for malicious publication of falsehood against the plaintiff, cost, and any other orders or remedies that the Court may deem fit.”
Background
This comes after Shatta Wale over a week ago vowed to spill a secret Bulldog revealed to him regarding the murder of the artist manager.
The warning was in response to the list of artists who will be on the songs on Shatta Wale’s upcoming album, “Gift of God,” (GOG), which was leaked by Bulldog.
Dancehall musician declared that he is prepared to testify in court over what Bulldog informed him regarding the killing of Fennec Okyere.
Kwaw Kese, whose career Fennec Okyere oversaw before he passed away in 2014, took notice of this Later, the Police issued a statement stating that they were in contact with Shatta Wale and wanted to obtain pertinent information to aid in the capture of the offender.
The Death of Fennec Okyere
The manager of Kwaw Kese, Fennec Okyere, was killed on Thursday, March 13, 2014, by unidentified gunmen at his Manet Gardens home along the Spintex Road in Accra. He passed away at the age of 31.
The Police Criminal Investigative Department took up Bulldog, also known as Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson, after his passing (CID). As a suspect in Fennec Okyere’s death, he was taken into custody in the Accra suburb of Kokomlemle.
Bulldog, who frequently sparred with Fennec Okyere, is said to have threatened him during a radio appearance. Bulldog was charged by the police with conspiracy to commit murder, but his plea was not accepted.
The CEO of Bullhaus Entertainment was cleared of all charges in connection with the alleged murder in 2017, after Attorney-General Gloria Akuffo stated that the state had lost interest in bringing charges against Bulldog for the purported killing of Fennec Okyere.
The Attorney General’s opinion on the case docket includes this information. Kwaw Kese voiced his displeasure with the situation.
A very disgruntled Kwaw Kese revealed to Lexis Bill during a Behind the Fame on Drive Time on Joy FM Interview in 2018, “Even the prosecutors were not going to court. I believe our security system is very weak,”
Bulldog, however, has constantly argued that he was not involved in the death of Fennec Okyere and is therefore innocent.
He claimed that they were aiming to promote their artists and to continue to be relevant as managers by taking shots at one another.
Bulldog insisted on his innocence in a 2022 Hitz FM interview and added that, despite their differences, he had never threatened Fennec Okyere.
Eight days after being served, Shatta Wale is supposed to reply to the lawsuit.
