Controversial influencer Andrew Tate, along with his brother and two other suspects, was arrested in Romania in December 2022 as part of an investigation into a human trafficking ring. Tate’s assets were seized, and he is currently being held in custody as the investigation continues.
On social media, Tate has consistently maintained his innocence but has largely remained silent on the matter. Despite previous recordings of him admitting to manipulating women for sex work and praising his tweets while detained, some of Tate’s followers continue to defend him.
Tate has also stated on Twitter that those who believe he is involved in human trafficking are “genuinely a moron.”
It is currently unclear what evidence the police are seeking in the investigation. Tate is being held for 30 days, with the possibility of an extension, and his attorneys’ request for an appeal was denied.
Tate continued the conversation about it on January 15, asking anyone who thought he was a human trafficker to “go and take their 10th vaccine.” Tate claims that the police detained him in order to “look for evidence,” but they later declared they wouldn’t find any since “it doesn’t exist.”
What proof the investigators are looking for and what they require to move on with the investigation are both unknown.
Two female associates of Tate have publicly defended him, claiming that he has never abused them. The two women, whose only known names were Beatrice and Jasmin, made an appearance on the Observator news program on the Romanian channel Antenna 1. They said that Romanian authorities had mistakenly identified them as victims of the sex trafficking operation that Tate is accused of running. The women asserted that they had never observed Tate or his brother Tristan to be “aggressive or rude”.
However, six other women have come forward to accuse Tate of both abuse and human trafficking, and audio of him confessing to rape has been leaked. The investigation remains open at this time.
