The popular phrase, “survival of the fittest” gets one wondering whether the youth are living or they are just surviving. The demands of the modern world have placed the modern youth in a position where hustling day and night is the norm whereas sleep is an option for those who want to starve.

The New Order Of The Age

Interestingly enough, most of these pressures and high expectations encountered are manufactured by the same youth who complain about it. They deprive themselves of sleep, consumed by thoughts mostly. This deprivation is becoming the new normal as they crave some fantastic future for which reason they exert themselves so much. You know what they say, “Everyone wants to be rich so sleep is for the lazy man!”

Inadequate sleep after days of hard hustle brings about several health implications. The social and psychological stability of a person is retarded when there’s insufficient sleep, especially when the body is demanding it and signs such as mood swings, and fatigue among others are glaring. One mistake we often do is to believe that our bodies will get used to it with time. But does that ever happen? Our bodies are not as strong as we think, moreover, even machines built for extra miles are made to rest to prevent exhaustion.

What The Future Looks Like

Consequently, we are destroying our work efficiency, mental health and physical outlook at a youthful age with these habits. The future, of course, doesn’t look promising with people who are stressed and sloppy. Imagine Ghana, full of leaders who are exhausted from their excessive hustles and lack of sleep from their younger years. How can that nation even think to expect any meaningful progress?

It’s just like buying a new car. When you keep driving it without the maintenance that is needed, it breaks down; the tires wear out; its beauty and efficiency deteriorate. A bright future is not one laced with frequent hospital appointments, a pile of medical bills, and a shortage of money since all is used for health care. A bright future is that which is enjoyed.

What will one gain when there’s wealth without good health?
