I rushed upstairs blushing so hard. I met the maid again and her face was not looking good. She gave me a disdainful look and shrugged. I might deserve that look now but from a maid? I’m not taking that. I snorted and brushed her off. What was her issue in the first place? I banged the door behind me after entering to signal her to keep off. I stayed behind the door with my ear against it trying to figure out her moves. Just when I was giving up, she spoke…

“It seems she has some dirty guts to compete with me and madam”.

I stood on the spot, bewildered. This meant Opeibea had rivals in her own home. Upon the rattling non-stop anytime she had the opportunity, she had foxes in her own vineyard. Wow! How humbling! Well, who doesn’t like good things? Perhaps I can get a share of these good things? With a plan formulating in the corners of my mind, I moved to my bed and dozed off.

Vigorous knocking on the door woke me up again. I guess there were still ‘villagers’ in this city. I yawned and stayed put with hopes that the other person would give up. That didn’t happen because the knocking sounded more aggressive than the previous anytime it came through. I had to give up. I literally crawled to the door and opened it. The maid was about to knock again! With a stick!! Could she be any worse?

We looked at each other as though it was a battle of eyes.

“What is it? What is it that you are knocking as if you’re trying to bring the whole house down? Didn’t you ever learn etiquettes?” I rained those words on her.

“Madam, because I am a maid doesn’t mean you have authority over me. Is this your husband’s house? Do you have a husba..” “Oh will you shut up Rita!” Opeibea angrily shouted while coming up the stairs upstairs in her blue and white striped pajamas revealing her gracious figure.

Who gave you such rights to talk to my sister like that? Tell me who? You seem to have exhausted your luck. Disappear from here before I decide on something extreme.”

“Opeibea, can you imagine this ….”

I stopped when I saw the daring look she gave me. I gulped. I was embarrassed. I murmured an apology and turned round, with the aim of going back indoors to continue moping. “Didn’t Rita inform you that breakfast is ready? Or you want to go in and focus on your wretched husband instead? Oh I forgot! Do you still have a husband?” She grinned mischievously.

To be continued…

Do you think Opeibea just gave her a reason to try and snatch her husband? After all, she admits Opeibea’s husband is a very fine man. Do you also think that the maid, Rita, and Opeibea’s husband are having an affair with each other?

  1. I don’t think that’s enough reason.
Also, it is too early to conclude that Rita and Opeibea’s husband are having an affair. The story hasn’t given us any concrete proof yet. Rita may just be trying her best so far to get the husband’s attention. We wait to see the story unfold.
