The Russia-Ukraine war has entered its 100th Day and the president of the United States, Joe Biden has advised Ukraine to surrender.
Russia has already taken over a fifth of the country, and the West had hoped that the Ukrainian military would be able to beat the world’s second most powerful army. However, Ukraine has lost territory, credibility, and even support that it enjoyed in the early days of the war in the last 100 days. And now, Volodymyr Zelensky is being pressured by his own allies to surrender.
The West’s expectations have dealt a huge blow. The Eastern side of the Ukraine territory is almost seized by the Russian forces which makes it enough to suggest who is actually winning the war.
The US President has advised Ukraine to surrender to Russia, and cede a part of its territory. His advice is sensible, given the present state of the Ukrainian military.
Context
The US was among first of the nations that imposed sanctions on Russia and also pledged of providing $40 billion in aid to Ukraine to strengthen Kyiv’s military to weaken the Russian military.
Biden has finally understood that Ukraine cannot emerge victorious from this war even though he was once completely confident that Ukraine was going to win the war against Russia.
