A mouse was put at the top of a jar. The jar was filled with grains. The mouse was so happy that he found a jackpot. He could relax here for the whole of his life without having to worry about hustling.
The mouse spent some good days enjoying the grains little by little. He never ventured out elsewhere to find out other sources of grain.
After a few days of living a lavish life and enjoying the grains, the mouse reached the bottom of the jar.
Now he’s trapped, hungry and cannot get out of it.
He started depending on someone else who would throw some grains. He wanted to go out and find out other sources, but he cannot go out. It was too late. Now he realised that his life depends on the jar owner who at his mercy would drop some grains and the mouse had no other choice but to rely on him.
Corporate Lessons
1. Do not let temporary comforts/pleasures come in the way of progress.
2. Do not stop self-development. If you do not continually develop or sharpen your skills, you will lose potential opportunities. You can eventually lose your choices and even your independence.
3. Anything that comes easy will not last forever. Find out other sources of income (active/passive) for sustenance.
4. Staying in a place too long would lead to stagnation. Be loyal, but always keep Plan B in hindsight.
5. No one is irreplaceable. If you are treated well at a place, it is for a reason and situations can change anytime. So be prepared.
