Morocco defeated Nigeria on penalties to advance to the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations final.
The final will pit them against South Africa.
Nigeria’s super Falcons were defeated 4-5 on penalties, preventing them from reaching their tenth final match.
The game was earlier ended in a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes as Nigeria were down with two players.
Ifeoma Onumonu missed one kick for Nigeria while the Moroccans scored on all of their shots.
The Nigerian team was reduced to 10 players after the first half ended scoreless as Halimatu Ayinde was given a matching order following a VAR review on the 48th minute.
After midfielder, Halimatu Ayinder was sent off, Nigeria took a lead on an own goal by Yasmine Mrabet, but Saana Mssoudy quickly equalised.
The Falcons’ situation worsened when star player, Rasheedat Ajibade was dismissed for a reckless challenge following a VAR review.
The Falcons played with nine players for the entirety of regulation time and extra time, but the Moroccans were unable to use their superior strength to win the game and instead waited for a penalty.
Earlier in the day, Zambia was defeated 1-0 by four-time runner-up, South Africa thanks to a disputed injury-time penalty.
Linda Mothalo maintained her composure to score in the 94th minute after Martha Tembo was found to have fouled Jermaine Seoposenwe.
