For weeks now, a video of an emotional funeral service in Saltpond, Central Region, has been making rounds on social media.
The footage shows a group bidding farewell to a catholic priest as his remains are laid to rest in a grave. However, it was the dramatic scene of a distraught woman hurling herself onto the casket in the grave and crying out “Father Bernard” that has sparked much discussion and speculation online. Many are now curious as to what could have driven her to make such an unusual and emotional display during the solemn occasion.
The particular clip found its way to the internet, quickly spawning numerous memes on popular social media platforms such as Twitter and TikTok.
Now, after several weeks, the woman at the centre of the incident has come forward to tell her side of the story.
Comfort Jackson, the woman in the video, has recently spoken up about her emotional outburst at the funeral service of the late Fr. Bernard.
Comfort explained that she was a cleaner at the church where Fr. Bernard had served and he had played a significant role in her personal development. She said that he prayed for her and took care of her and her father when he was ill.
The shock of his passing was overwhelming for her and she could not control her emotions at the funeral service. Comfort also mentioned that she had dreamt about the priest after his death prior to the funeral.
