Death is inevitable and very painful but some deaths are highly regrettable, one of such is the death of Christian Atsu.

On March 17, 2023, at the State House forecourt, the final rites for the late Black Stars star Christian Atsu was performed. Football fans from all over the world are anticipated at the State House to offer their condolences to Atsu’s family and pay their respects. Politicians, entertainment industry professionals, and people from all walks of life are also expected to attend.

Former and current Black Stars players attended Atsu’s one-week observance, which was held on March 4 at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf in Accra.

On February 6, 2023, a horrific 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck regions of Turkey and Syria claimed the life of the football player. After an 11-story building collapsed on Atsu and others in Turkey, his lifeless body was pulled from the debris.

On February 19, 2023, on a Sunday, his body was transported from Turkey to Ghana.

Since then, as tributes to the hero have poured in, government officials, members of the football community, coworkers, fans, and Ghanaians in general have extended their sympathies to the deceased family.

Numerous former Black Stars players paid a visit to the deceased Christian Atsu’s family home to sign the book of condolences that had been opened in his honour.

On February 21, 2023, Atsu’s family home was visited by Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Agyeman Badu, and Haminu Dramani.

A Little Biography

Christian Atsu Twasam, a Ghanaian professional football player, was born on 10 January 1992 and passed away on 6 February 2023. He typically played as a winger but could also be used as an attacking midfielder or left back.

In addition to spending a season on loan at Rio Ave, Atsu started his career at Porto. He was acquired by Chelsea in 2013 for £3.5 million, who afterwards loaned him to Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, AFC Bournemouth, and Málaga.

He signed a permanent switch to Newcastle United in May 2017 after playing on loan there during the 2016–17 campaign.

The funeral will be attended by various dignitaries including the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Former President John Dramani Mahama and the Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif. 

Both former and current Black Star players all flung in to pay their last respect to the legendary football player including Sule Muntari, Richard Koomsoon, Emmanuel Adebayoh, John Mensah, Agyemang Badu.

Christian Atsu lived selflessly while he was alive. He cared about many people and did his best to impact their lives positively. He was involved in a lot of charity work and there are several testimonies of the lives that he touched. A hero is being celebrated today, though he is dead, his legacy lives forever. May His Soul Rest In Peace.
