Members of Ghana’s Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have stated that they will not vote on any bill until the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill” is approved.
The Minority NDC MPs took action in response to what they say is an attempt to postpone the passage of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, often known as the “Anti-Gay Bill,” which is now before the House of Representatives.
Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region and Minority Chief Whip, issued the warning on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
According to him, even if the government drafts a Bill to deliver water to his Constituents, the NDC MPs will fight it until the anti-gay Bill is approved.
Alhaji Muntaka explained that since the anti-gay Bill was introduced, several other Bills have come to Parliament and been passed by the House.
“So far, as this Constitution is concerned when we introduce a Bill in this House and it is before the Committee we must not spend more than three months without coming to tell us reasons why it has to go beyond the three months,” he said.
He added, “We will make sure that that bill, as long as it stays there no other Bill passes through this House.”
