The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) refuted claims that it would raise transportation costs in the near future.
This follows media reports that stated that beginning on September 30, transportation costs would increase by 30%.
There won’t be a similar increment, according to its general secretary Godfred Abulbire, who called the decision unjustified.
He made it clear in his remarks to Joy Business that its members prefer a decrease in fuel prices versus an increase in transportation costs.
“This is not coming from us and I repeat that information is not coming from us. We are not part of that decision. It is a group of persons that have come out to increase the transport fares and giving timelines”.
“They cannot implement it, but they keep saying they will increase it”, he stated.
According to Mr. Abulbire, its members are keen on seeing fuel prices drop.
Given the fluctuations in fuel prices, he claims that the association is not benefited from fare increases.
“When you take your cameras to speak to our drivers, they will tell you that they want the fuel prices to go down instead of increasing transport fares. This is because we do not benefit from it”, he mentioned.
The association stated that it will consult with various industry players in the coming days to determine whether or not there will be an increase.
