The Rotary Club is a global network of 1.4 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who envision a world where people come together and take action to create lasting change. The Rotary Club is motivated by passion, energy, intelligence, and the desire to improve the world through sustainable projects in areas such as literacy, peace, water, and health.
Together, Rotary, a network of more than 46,000 clubs, works to: promote peace; combat disease; provide clean water; promote sanitation and hygiene; save mothers and children; support education; strengthen local economies; and protect the environment. Rotary believes that everyone has a responsibility to address the world’s most pressing needs.
In Ghana, the impact of Rotary is felt in how it supports child education, maternity health, a drive for a green environment and many more. The Green Ghana initiative is therefore a project that Rotary Club of Accra-Premier International has been highly involved in their bid to make the world a better place.
About Green Ghana
H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo established the Green Ghana Day in 2021 as a part of a vigorous national reforestation/afforestation initiative to replace Ghana’s lost forest cover and to aid in the global fight against climate change. On June 11 of 2021, the first edition was held, and an estimated 7 million tree saplings were planted throughout the country.
Geared towards mitigating climate change, inculcating values of planting and nurturing nature, beautifying the environment and many more, the Green Ghana initiative is a move towards preserving nature.
Green Ghana Day 2022 was officially launched at the Accra International Conference Center by H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, President of Ghana. This year’s exercise has the theme of “Mobilizing for a Greener Future.”

How Rotary Club of Accra-Premier International Helps the Green Ghana Initiative
As Nelson Henderson puts it, “The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit”, the Rotary Clubs of Accra-Premier International and Accra-Industrial, at the location of the Forestry Commission Office, oversaw the planting of about 50 seedlings of several tree species, including Afram, Mahogany, Acacia, Birhania, and Gmylina, among others. The clubs have fulfilled their duty as environmental stewards by doing this.
The impact and the involvement of the Rotary Club of Accra-Premier International in making Ghana green cannot be overemphasised, thus, its collaboration and commitment to the tree-planting exercises in Ghana is something that speaks volumes of goodwill.
