The Koforidua Technical Institute’s boys’ dormitory, located in the Eastern Region’s New Juaben North Municipality, has been completely destroyed by fire.

Before National Fire Service workers controlled the blaze and stopped it from spreading to additional rooms, the fire that started on Monday at 11:45 p.m. raged across four rooms.

75 affected students lost everything they owned. One person was still being treated and discharged from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua after treatment for eight who had minor injuries.

Although the cause of the incident is yet unknown, preliminary examinations conducted by the Ghana National Fire Service hint to an electrical issue.

The school’s principal, Bernard Forson, pleaded with the public to donate some supplies to the facility.

The agency is preparing to host a number of student engagements to educate students on fire management, according to Municipal Fire Commander DO1 Emmanuel Acquaye, who is now on the spot with his troops as part of investigations.

The school has received GH $20,000 from New Juaben North MP Nana Adjei Boateng to help with the urgent needs of the afflicted pupils.

Nana Adjei Boateng further said he will urge the appropriate parties to intervene and solve the situation so as not to interfere with the students’ academic pursuits.
