Arguably, Ghana is one of the most peaceful countries in the World. A recent study by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) confirms this, with Ghana losing first place to Mauritius as the most peaceful country in sub-Saharan Africa.
Notwithstanding these facts are happenings that make citizens and foreigners alike question their safety in the country.

Demonstrations
Although protests led by civil society and labour unions in the capital are well policed and often peaceful but cannot overlook the setbacks when protestors hit the streets. This is a major concern and a worry because of its increased rates. Several demonstrations have hit the country with recent major ones being “Fix The Country Demo” and “Yentua Demo” which was stage against the payment of the electronic levy.

Ritual Killings
One major issue that threatens the security of Ghana as a country is ritual killings. These are due to many factors, but the main ones are still a mystery to many. Many have attributed the fact to the high unemployment rate in the country and the ever-increasing rate of radio/TV advertisements of fetish priests.

Armed Robberies
Rising armed robbery is a threat that threatens the security of Ghana. Key places where these happenings have been rampant are the Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti, and Northern Regions. In recent times, highway robbery, attacks on mobile money vendors, and forex bureaus are on the rise where citizens have been at the mercy of criminals in broad daylight.

It is interesting to note that these are not the only happenings that threaten the security of Ghana as kidnapping, coup attempts, internal wrangling, herdsmen menace, cybercrime, and human trafficking add to the list. These indicators are a setback and threaten our security as a nation. The entirety of Ghana is a peaceful country; however, this peace will forever be questioned if these issues are not solved.
