The Ghana Police Service has attempted to stop the Arise Ghana Coalition from protesting, but according to Sammy Gyamfi, national communications officer of the major opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), only “death” can do so.
He reiterated that the pressure group will demonstrate as scheduled despite the police using all of their “needless techniques” in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning broadcast, “Ghana Montie.”
“Unless they kill all of us that day, aside that, nothing can stop us,” he passionately said.
Demo Ends at 4 pm – Accra High Court
The Ghana Police Service requested that Arise Ghana not be allowed to march into the night, and that request was granted by the Criminal Division of the Accra High Court.
After failing to come to an agreement with the march’s organizers, the police rushed to the court to stop the participants from continuing their protest till 10 o’clock at night.
The court, presided over by Justice Comfort Tasiame, ordered the marchers to congregate at Obra Spot, proceed along Farrisco Avenue to TUC, and terminate their demonstration at Independent Square.
The court further ruled that the scheduled protest should begin at 8 am and finish at 4 pm rather than at 10 pm as the organizers had anticipated.
The Arise Ghana protest against the difficult economic circumstances in the nation and some of the policies of Ghana is set for today, June 28, 2022.
