After a heavy downpour that led to the closure of the Twifi Praso – Cape Coast Road last Saturday, repair work has commenced. The rains had caused some of the stretch to cave in, leading to the collapse of the bridge connecting the Twifo Praso to Cape Coast road.
The head of public relations for the Ghana Highway Authority, Cecil Obodai Wentum said that the Surowi river had overflowed its banks, which caused the 22-meter bridge to collapse.
Mr. Wentum told Citi News that engineers had been sent to the region to repair the bridge. He noted that the only issue they faced was that they had to wait for the water to recede before the contractor could begin work.
He also added that “the contractor has gathered enough boulders to fill the portions that have been cut off”. Meanwhile, following the flooding and the bridge’s collapse, a temporary bypass has also been built for affected communities.
