Captain Smart, a prominent Ghanaian broadcaster, has expressed his frustration over some workers at Despite Media who have been attacking Nana Ama McBrown, a popular Ghanaian actress and former host of UTV’s United Showbiz show. McBrown recently joined Media General after departing from Despite Media, and her move has attracted criticism and name-calling from some of her former colleagues.
During his Maakye show on Onua TV, Captain Smart lashed out at the Despite Media workers, describing them as “villagers” and expressing disbelief at their campaign to paint McBrown as ungrateful. He even went as far as threatening to organize a relaunch of Nana Ama McBrown, wearing branded T-shirts from Circle to the new media house.
Captain Smart’s outburst highlights the heated nature of the media industry in Ghana and the strong emotions involved when public figures make moves between media houses. Despite Media is one of the biggest media houses in Ghana, and McBrown’s departure has evidently caused some ripples among her former colleagues.
