Mahamadu Bawumia, the vice president, was the target of jeers at Anlo.

This took place on Saturday, November 5, during his speech at the Hogbetsotso Za festival in the Volta Region.

In the speech, he emphasized the relevance of the Anlo state to the prosperity of the country.

Despite the ongoing suffering, the thronging crowd did not remain mute when he started listing the government’s accomplishments.

“…for the first time in our history, we have Free TVET and for the first time in our history we have Free SHS,” he said among other things.

He shouted on top of his voice, drowning out the jeers and cries of displeasure that interrupted the rest of his speech.

“There are many people who don’t like good news, but this is good news”, Dr. Bawumia said as the uproar increased.

“Ghanaians are facing a major increase in the cost of living, cost of fuel prices and so on and we have to do more to make sure that we can relieve the burden of Ghanaians,” he added.

Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia, Asantehene Otomfuo Osei-Tutu II, Kwahumahene, and Ga Mantse were among the dignitaries present.

President Akufo-Addo received similar treatment for his convoy in Kumasi after being jeered at the Global Citizen Festival in Accra in September.

On Monday, October 17, the President was reviewing Phase II of the Kejetia/Central Market Project when the Ashanti regional incident took place.

Every year, on the first Saturday in November, the Anlo community celebrates the Hogbetsotso festival, making it a memorable day.
