Prices for sachets and bottled water in Ghana will rise as of this today, Monday, October 31, 2022.
The National Executive Committee of the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) announced the new price last Thursday.
Prices last jumped on September 19; until today.
The Association estimates that sachet water will cost ¢0.60, 500 ml of bottled water will retail for ¢2.50, medium-sized bottled water would cost ¢3.50, and 1.5 litres of bottled water will cost ¢5.
The decision, according to NASPAWAP, was required since the cost of industrial inputs has been steadily rising due to the cedi’s depreciation against the major trading currencies.
They clarified that due to haulage to far-off locations and other overheads, there might be modest variances between regions and towns.
The increased tariffs, according to the Association, will enable the water producers to continue producing bottled water of a high standard for Ghanaians.
Sachet water bags (500m1 x 30 sachets) will now be sold from retail trucks for ¢10.00 (ex-truck price).
Businesses have struggled with the depreciation of the cedi, and a number of sachet and packaged water producers have threatened to stop producing and distributing water if the government does nothing to reverse the currency’s precipitous decline.
