The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for 2022 will start on October 17 and end on October 21, 2022, simultaneously for schools and private registered.

This will be the first time both schools and private students will take the examinations simultaneously, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) announced in a statement announcing the examination date. The Council explained privately candidates generally had fewer entries over the years.

A total of 1,132 private applicants have registered for the examinations and will take the papers at 15 different locations. In contrast, a total of 552,276 candidates from 18,501 schools across the country will take the exams for school candidates at 2,023 centres.

Out of the total number of school applicants, 276,988 are males and 275,288 are females. 634 men and 498 women make up the private candidates.

The overall number of candidates representing the schools, according to the Council, is 34.48% fewer than the 572,167 total in 2021.

The number of private candidates is 6.09% greater than the 1,067 from the previous year. According to WAEC, every necessary step has been taken to guarantee a successful exam.

The Council urged candidates to remain focused and be on the alert for the activities of examination social media racketeers whose primary goal is to generate money through deceit, the WAEC said in a statement on Thursday.

Candidates have also been warned by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to avoid cheating and to refrain from bringing mobile phones and other foreign objects to the examination halls. Cancellation of the Subject or Overall Results is one of the consequences of cheating on an exam. All examination officers were advised by WAEC to adhere to the guidelines and rules governing the administration of the examination.
