The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, has cancelled Adwoa Sarfo’s ministerial appointment, which was effective today.
Hon. Sarah Adwoa Sarfo has been long absent from both parliamentary and ministerial proceedings, which is against the law for someone to hold office as both a minister and an MP.
Therefore, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection is to be overseen by Mad. Cecilia Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, until a substantive minister is nominated by the President, according to a letter from the Office of the President signed by Eugene Arhin.
The action taken by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is in accordance with Article 81(a) of the Republic’s constitution, according to the letter dated July 28.
Earlier Today At Parliament
The Privileges committee was unable to reach a consensus over whether or not the member’s seat should be declared empty if she skips more than the required 15 days without authorization.
The Minority contended that because Adwoa Safo neglected to give the committee her side of the story, the seat shouldn’t be declared empty in accordance with the natural justice concept.
