“Squid Game: The Challenge” is looking for English speakers from around the globe, aged at least 21 and free to travel for up to a month in early 2023.
Its creator has said that losing participants would not be murdered, unlike the original ultra-violent fictitious program from South Korea, which became one of Netflix’s biggest-ever blockbusters last year.
“With the largest cast in reality TV history, 456 actual players will compete for a life-changing cash prize of $4.56 million,” the streaming platform announced on a portal dedicated to finding candidates. Players will participate “in a series of heart-stopping games,” according to Netflix, which describes the new reality program as its “biggest-ever social experiment.”
The original fictitious series was viewed as a harsh parody of modern capitalism, with participants pulled from the margins of society playing children’s games for the chance to earn large sums of money, with the danger of death if they lost.
The news comes only days after Netflix announced that a second season of “The Squid Game” will be released.
