Jermaine Lamarr Cole is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and professional basketball player for the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. He is regarded as one of the most influential rappers of his generation and the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) for fans worldwide.
It’s not every day that Guelph, Ontario (a small city about an hour and a half outside of Toronto) gets to see one of the greatest rappers in the world compete in a Canadian Elite Basketball League game. Cole, who played basketball in high school and professionally in Africa last year around the same time he released his album “THE OFFSEASON”, reportedly decided to join the Shooting Stars, co-owned by OVO founding member Nicholas “Niko” Carino, after chatting with Drake at this birthday party.
J. Cole has seen limited playing time in his first few games suiting up for the Scarborough Shooting Stars but made a major impact in his first quarter action on Tuesday night, June 7
Cole helped pace the Shooting Stars in taking an early lead against the Newfoundland Growlers when he banged a pair of three-pointers back-to-back, which drew a massive roar from Drake, Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray and the rest of the home crowd.
He posted a snippet of the match the following day on his Instagram page where he cracked a joke about setting carrier high with a pair of 3 pointers in Shooting Star win. He wrote, “Shattered my previous carrier high…blessed to be able to play with @scarboroughshootingstars.”
Even after taking home another victory, the grind for Cole wasn’t done yet. He linked up with Uninterrupted‘s More Than An Athlete to sign a few items, which will be auctioned off for charity.
J. Cole and the Shooting Stars will be in action once again on June 12 when they head to Edmonton to face off the Stingers.
