Beyoncé dropped new music on Monday, June 20, and the internet exploded. It was said to be released at midnight, but it seemed to have been released a few hours earlier, dropping at around 10:00 p.m. The new song, “Break My Soul”, is an upbeat bounce track that will make you want to dance. It may also make you want to quit your job, too.
“Break My Soul” is Beyoncé’s first single from a solo studio album since “Lemonade” in 2016. The singer has revealed little about “Renaissance,” which is due July 29.
According to the platform’s credits, the dance song is co-produced by Bey, Tricky Stewart, and The-Dream, and features Big Freedia, a rapper who is known for his work in bounce music, a variation of hip-hop that originated in New Orleans in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was also featured on “Formation,” Beyonce’s lead single from her 2016 album “Lemonade.”
“It feels surreal to be on the track with the Queen Beyoncé once again,” Big Freedia tweeted. “I’m so honored to be apart of this special moment I’m forever grateful lord. Someone please catch me.”
Between albums, Beyoncé headlined Coachella; recorded a duo album with her husband, Jay-Z; composed music for and lent her voice to Disney’s live-action remake of “The Lion King”; marked Juneteenth with “Black Parade”; and earned an Oscar nomination for her song “Be Alive,” from “King Richard.”
Twitter exploded, loving that Beyoncé was not only returning to an upbeat sound but that “Break My Soul” is a track people will want to get down to at the club, harkening back to “Formation”.
