The Education Ministry has refuted media accusations that several Senior High Schools (SHS), particularly those in the Volta Region, are experiencing food shortages.

According to a statement from the Ministry, “all senior high schools in the country have received adequate supply of food items,” thus the reports are false.

The lack of food supplies to meet the needs of the student population has prompted school administrators to issue a warning that schools may have to close.

However, according to the Ministry, its inspections show that the questioned schools have received sufficient supplies.

“The Ministry however takes cognizance of recent disruptions within the food supply chain, but assures parents and guardians that they have been addressed”, the release stressed.

Kwasi Kwarteng, the Education Ministry’s head of public relations, stated in a separate interview that the National Food Buffer Stock Company Limited had provided enough food to schools across the nation.

“The public is respectfully encouraged to disregard claims of food shortage in our SHSs. The Ministry can confirm that our agency–Buffer Stock– distributed food to all schools in the country. Every school is adequately resourced in terms of food to at least sustain them until the next supply is made. So those media reports of food shortage are unfounded.”
